A Dinosaur in Today’s Game? - Will the most dominant college player translate to the NBA

     A Dinosaur in Today’s game?

(SCORESTREAM) - Zach Edey's dominance in college basketball is something that's got everyone talking, and it's not just because of his towering height. This Purdue behemoth is redefining what it means to be a center in the game. His ability to control the paint on both ends of the court is just outrageous. On defence, he's like a wall—players think twice before driving the lane. And on offence, he's not just a dunk machine; he's got moves, making him a scoring threat from various positions.

Purdue currently finds itself in the final 4 of the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Led by their dominant big man down low, Zach Edey with averages of 25 ppg, 12.2 rpg, 2 apg, and 2.2 bpg. Edey is currently dominating the college basketball scene, with his monstrous 7'4 height. Zach Edey seriously lacks speed on the court but he certainly makes up for it with his height and wingspan at the college level, but will this seriously translate to the NBA level.

The concerts about Zach Edey are about his mobility and speed. The NBA is super fast-paced, and defenders have to switch and defend against smaller faster and more agile guards. The trend in the NBA today is toward bigs who can shoot from distance. Edey has not shown a consistent shooting ability through his stint with Purdue.

The NBA season is a lot more of a grind than the college season, for someone like Edey with a big frame, it could be hard for him to stay fit and healthy through the long 82 game regular season. The NBA is such a different game from college, we see this time and time again, college basketball stars, bouncing out of the NBA after their first couple of seasons. Edey should definitely hear his name called on draft night, and at least be given a chance in the NBA, and he should not be counted out just yet.

In most mock drafts, Edey is currently projected to be a late 1st round pick to an early 2nd round pick, with rumours such as the Raptors keeping an eye on him given that he is a Toronto native. Edey can be more compared to a traditional back-to-basket big-man of the 80s and 90s, his playstyle does not seem to fit the fast-paced 3-point heavy game of today.

Despite this Zach Edey does have some upside to him, Edey has a massive 7'4 frame, making him a dominant force in the paint on both offence and defence. If Edey develops a long shot, he could be a serious asset to any NBA team. Edey can seriously disrupt NBA offences, with his defensive prowess in the paint. There is plenty of room for players like that in the NBA, ones who can disrupt other teams and can be serious game changers.
