Predicting all NBA award winners
MVP
(SCORESTREAM)
Nikola Jokic:
The Serbian center has led the Denver Nuggets to a 57-25 record, and the second seed. Jokic has won this award previously in 2021 and 2022 and is a strong front-runner to win his 3rd this season. Jokic has averages of 26.4 ppg, 12.4 rpg, 9 apg, and 1.4 spg. Jokic is also shooting at a very high clip, making 58% of his shots from the field and 35% from three. The Nuggets are fresh off the 2023 championship and Nikola Jokic has led them in yet another amazing season, their 57-25 record has booked them a first-round meeting with the 7th-seeded Los Angeles Lakers. The Nuggets are in serious contention to go back-to-back and win the 2024 NBA championship. Jokic has widely been considered the best player in the NBA in the last three seasons.
Luka Doncic:
Luka Doncic is only 25 years old, yet he has taken the league by storm after being drafted in 2018. Luka has led the Mavericks to a 50-32 record and the 5th seed. Luka is a top player in the league this year with averages of 33.9 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 9.8 apg, and 1.4 spg. Also shooting 48% from the field and 38% from beyond the arch. Luka has emerged as a favourite for the MVP with his near triple-double averages. Luka and the Mavericks have a first-round match-up against the Los Angeles Clippers. Luka has not had much team success only finding him and his guys at the 5th seed. Luka is having an amazing individual season, besides the point of his team's success.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander:
Shai has had a very surprising season, He is also only 25 years old, and he has led his very young Thunder team to the 1st seed, exceeding almost everyone's expectations going into the season. Shai is producing at a very high level this season with averages of 30.1 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 6.2 apg, and 2 steals. Shai is achieving this very efficiently shooting 53% from the field, for his position at point guard he shoots a respectable 35% from deep. The Thunder are currently in a first-round matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Thunder are a very young team with a bright future, led by their star, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Prediction for Award Winner - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
I believe the best pick for MVP is OKC guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Although he may not be averaging a near triple-double like Jokic and Doncic. He shoots very effectively from the field at 53%, which is exceptional for a guard in today's NBA. Shai has led his team to a place that many people would've never expected. Shai's team plays better with him on the floor at all times, he is 4th in the league in +/- per game, with a plus/minus of 8.2 per game. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander truly is the most valuable player to his team.
DPOY
Bam Adebayo:
Bam Adebayo is a very versatile defensive big man out in South Beach. The 26-year-old is having a very good season this year, making an all-star appearance, he has had averages of 19.3 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.1 spg, 0.9 bpg. These stats do not look amazing on paper, but when you really look at the advanced stats this is really where Bam shines. Bam only allows 0.81 points per pick-and-roll possession and when he defending 1 on 1 he allows 0.96 points per possession. Bam has made a really strong case for Dpoy in his 7th season.
Rudy Gobert:
Rudy Gobert is the defensive anchor of the Timberwolves this season. The Timberwolves have gone with a less traditional route this season starting two 7-footers, Karl-Anthony Towns and Gobert but it seems to be working, The timberwolves currently find themselves in the 3rd seed. Gobert having a good year putting up 14 ppg, 12.9 rpg, 07 spg, and 2 blocks per game.
Victor Wembanyama:
Wembanyama has been a beast on the defensive end for the San Antonio Spurs in his rookie season. His huge 7'4 frame makes him a great shot blocker and paint-protecting big man. Wembanyama has averaged 1.2 spg and 3.6 bpg. Wembanyama has a skinny frame which has led to his interior defence not being the greatest, but he is only 20 years old and has lots of time to develop his game and body.
Prediction for Award Winner - Bam Adebayo
Bam Adebayo should be the defensive player of the year. His Defensive versatility is off the charts. He can guard 1 through 5, switch on pick-and-rolls, and has phenomenal footwork. He is a floor general on defence. He anticipates plays and disrupts passing lanes. The energy he brings to defence is contagious, and he leads one of the better defences in the NBA with the Miami Heat. Bam Adebayo no doubt should win DPOY.
ROTY
Chet Holmgren:
Chet Holmgren missed his first season with an injury, so by NBA rules he is still considered a rookie this year. Chet is a key piece of the Oklahoma City Thunder and what they are accomplishing this season. Chet is having a very good rookie campaign with averages of 16.5 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 2.4 apg, and 2.3 bpg. Chet is a very good candidate for the ROTY award.
Brandon Miller:
Brandon Miller was drafted to a Charlotte Hornets team that was in need of an offensive spark. Miller did not have the strongest start to his rookie year but he really has turned it around quite well, he finished the season averaging 17.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg, and 2.4 apg. Miller has a lot of upside and it is no surprise to see him in the running for ROTY.
Victor Wembanyama:
Victor Wembanya was drafted to a struggling Spurs team with the hopes he could help turn the franchise around. Wembanyama is a very dominant player being 7'4. Wembanyama has had average of 21.4 ppg, 10.6 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.2 spg, and 3.6 bpg. Although the spurs had a bad season they seem to have a bright future led by Wembanyama.
Prediction for Award Winner - Victor Wembanyama
Although Chet Holmgren and Brandon Miller have had very good rookie campaigns. It is pretty clear that Wembanyama should receive this award. Just comparing his stats to every other rookie it becomes pretty obvious. I believe this will be a unanimous decision.
MIP
Winner - Tyrese Maxey
It is no surprise that Maxey ended up with this Award, through the absence of Joel Embiid, Maxey has really led his team, and they ended up with the 7th seed. Maxey during the 2022-2023 NBA season averaged 20.3 ppg, 3.5 apg, and 2.9 rpg. Maxey during this season has averaged 25.9 ppg, 6.2 apg, 3.7 rpg, and 1 steal. Maxey has really improved, scoring 5 more points a game and doubling his assists.
6MOTY
Winner - Naz Reid
Naz Reid has had a very big year for the Minnesota Timberwolves this year so it is no surprise that he has won this award, he has averaged 13.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg, and 1.3 apg, off the bench which is impressive. he should be respected for a very good season he has had.
