Miami Heat - A Cinderella Team?

(SCORESTREAM) - The NBA playoffs are rapidly approaching with just about a month left to go in the season. When talking about contenders in the Eastern Conference this season, more often than not teams like Boston, Milwaukee and even Cleveland are in the mix. Last season in the 2023 NBA playoffs, almost no one predicted that the Heat would make it to the NBA finals, after losing their first play-in tournament game to the Atlanta Hawks. This narrative of them not being a contender seems to follow them every year, but is this narrative correct?

Heat star, Jimmy Butler recently was quoted saying "It's that time of the year". he later added that he was referring to how they end up exceeding everyone's expectations

As of today, March 24th, Miami sits at 7th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 38-32. Miami has only played around 30 games this season, with everyone being fully healthy.

Miami made a surprising trade this year, sending Kyle Lowry to Charlotte in exchange for Terry Rozier, a 20-ppg scorer. although Terry hasn't looked amazing for Miami this year he seems to be finding a groove towards the end of the season. Terry brings an explosive scoring ability to a Miami offence that can look very lacklustre at times. Terry combines a mix of three-point shooting and finishing around the rim, to greatly benefit the Miami offence.

Although Miami has had this narrative following them around, they have made the Eastern Conference Finals 3 times in the last 4 years, and made the NBA Finals twice in that time frame, losing both, Miami is fresh off a finals loss against Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets losing in 5 games, 4-1.

Based on there success in the last 4 years, Miami should always be a team to watch out for. They've got a fiery spirit and turn it up when the stakes are high. With a mix of seasoned veterans, Jimmy Butler, Kevin Love, Delon Wright. and young talent, Tyler Herro, and the rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr.

The Miami Heat bring a blend of experience and fresh energy to the court. Their defence can be suffocating, and on a good night, their offence lights up the scoreboard like a fireworks show. Heat culture is all about grit and determination. This means Miami should never be counted out.
